Energy Boosting Herbs

Feeling tired and draaaained? This may help…

Whilst quality sleep, eating a nutrient-dense diet, maintaining a healthy body weight and self-care are THE most important factors for feeling our energetic best, some herbal supplements used correctly, may be useful to boost energy and cognitive health.

⛔️Please note that many herbs can interact with commonly prescribed medications or cause other side effects, so it’s vital to speak with your doctor before using any of the following:

Ginseng - Well known for its energy-boosting properties. Compounds, such as ginsenosides, are thought to provide its performance and energy-enhancing effects. Doses of 200–1,000 mg per day have been associated with beneficial effects. *Ginseng use may come with side effects, including insomnia, diarrhoea and increased heart rate & blood pressure. It can also interfere with common medications

Guarana - Often used in energy drinks and supplements because it contains an array of stimulants, incl. caffeine, saponins & tannins, that are believed to provide beneficial effects on energy / brain function. Some studies have shown that supplementing with guarana extract alone or combined with other nutrients in doses ranging from 37.5–300mg may help boost attention, alertness and memory. *Whilst it is generally considered safe, guarana may lead to side effects like increased heart rate and anxiety if taken in high doses

Peppermint - It’s a great herbal/caffeine-free tea option… and simply inhaling peppermint essential oil may help boost energy, mood & athletic performance*

Rosemary - The aroma of its essential oil may help improve cognitive performance as it allows compounds called terpenes to enter the bloodstream, where they can directly stimulate the brain*

Ashwagandha - It’s long been used as an Ayurvedic herbal remedy due to potentially powerful beneficial effects on brain function. *Research shows supplements with ashwagandha are generally well tolerated and may have positive effects on cellular energy production and attention/reaction speed

Maca - Native to Peru and prized for its health benefits, studies have found it can boost energy levels, athletic performance & mood

*Whilst peppermint and rosemary essential oils have a good safety profile, never ingest an essential oil (unless prescribed by a qualified healthcare provider) as too much can be toxic
