The Fickle Nature of Self-Belief
Do you agree that at times we really need to hear this...? On repeat in fact... sometimes more frequently than others.
Motivation and staying motivated (whatever it is we are seeking to achieve) can be a fickle, and sometimes elusive, friend. Some days it’s fully present and other days it’s preoccupied, making us wonder what possessed us to embark upon the particular ambition in the first place.
Starting out with not only a new profession, but a new business, I am constantly wavering between can I / can’t I? What if I’m not able to make a success of my business and, more than that, myself? It’s frankly anxiety inducing at times.
So what’s the point here? We all set aspirations / ambitions / goals at certain times because deep down we know we can do whatever it is when we start out. Maintaining that constant sense of self belief comes more naturally to some than to others so we mustn’t beat ourselves up for the moments when we feel less than sure of our abilities.
But fear of failure can be a driving force too! And in fact encountering failure itself is integral to the process... if we don’t encounter obstacles which force us to think differently and move outside the proverbial box, we won’t grow emotionally or physically. To overcome these obstacles we push ourselves to the next level, knowing any success worth achieving doesn’t come easy.
So the next time you have a moment where you question yourself, your intentions or your ability, remember that those moments of doubt are absolutely essential to achieving the success that awaits you 💛
