Attitude is Everything
We already know that maintaining a positive attitude is vital to success, but it’s often easier said than done…
So here are a few tips for maintaining a winning attitude regardless of what life throws at us:
We determine our reality - We get to choose how to react to any given situation, either positively or negatively. The key is to be able to adapt our perspective to look at each experience, even apparently negative ones, as an opportunity for learning and growth
Movement Is a natural endorphin booster - Research has found that continuous moderate exercise generates the greatest drop in depressive symptoms and stress versus doing high intensity or no exercise. Just remember that it doesn’t have to be formal exercise - if you don’t like running, try dancing instead? And don’t underestimate the power of some upbeat tunes to maximise the positive vibes
Our language shapes our thoughts - Little changes can alter the way we think and how we act. Consider what the language in question is communicating to others… and to ourselves! Answering with “great” or “fantastic” when someone asks how we are reminds us that life really is great, plus it often helps the other person shift towards a positive attitude as well
Surround yourself with positive people - ’They’ say we are the average (in terms of health, wealth, mindset and lifestyle) of the five people we spend the most time with so if we want to be healthy, then it’s time to hang out with healthy people! And if we want to be positive, we need to spend plenty of time with positive people
Show appreciation for others - It might be a job well done, a fab outfit or their beautiful smile. Commenting on good things and people you encounter can cause a positive chain reaction
Live with gratitude - So many amazing things happen each day, and we often overlook them letting one negative comment or event ruin our mood. It can help to keep a gratitude journal where you note down things you are grateful for each am or pm (see my previous post on gratitude journaling)
Recharge - It might be simply taking a few hours to read an uplifting book. Taking a break from daily stresses can stimulate the release of happiness hormones like serotonin & dopamine. The key to generating lasting positive energy is switching off from the outside world and spending time with loved ones doing what you love
Whatever you choose to do, start small or pick the one that really resonates with you the most and build from there. It’s amazing how little changes can have a profound impact!
